Simon will outline the current developments in the pressure vessel standards PD 5500, EN 13445 and ASME VIII Division 1, and the proposed future improvements, including requirements for additive manufacture and hydrogen service.

Simon is a pressure vessel and heat exchanger mechanical design consultant and has been involved in the design of heat transfer equipment since the early 1970s. He has been a member of the management committee of the Heat Transfer Society since 1980 and has served as Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer at various times. Simon has served on the BSI committee PVE/1/15, which is responsible for the design methods in PD 5500, since 1990 and has been the consultant to the PVE/1 committees since 2005. He also serves on the European Standards committee CEN/TC 54 which has overall responsibility for EN 13445. He is Convenor of CEN/TC 54 Working Group 7 (Titanium) and is one of the BSI representatives on CEN/TC 54 Working Group 53 (Design Methods).
