This is a chance for Society members and colleagues to get together for a special festive spread prior to the Christmas break.

As part of the evening Colin Weil, our President, will chat briefly about his time in the oil and gas industry since the 1960s. From the days before computers, when engineers needed to concentrate on one expertise rather than being generalists and had secretaries to type memos and reports!

In the late 1980's Norman Mitchell asked Colin to assist in running the HTS Annual Dinner. and after a few years Norman emigrated to Canada. Colin ran the dinners until just before Covid. He has also been the HTS Honorary Secretary for more years than he is willing to admit, but stood down this year.

Colin started with Fluor (England), moving through Powergas, aka Davy Powergas, aka Davy International, etc., etc., until settling into Marathon Oil. With that lot behind him he became a consultant, initially "trouble shooting" wayward heat exchangers. Then concentrating on managing various joint industry research projects which resulted in several good practice guides.

Underlying his heat exchanger activity, he became involved in developing unfired ISO heat exchanger standards and side-stepped into API standardisation.

These API and ISO activities led to Colin becoming the (technical) editor for API's unfired heat exchanger standards. He is also the convenor for the ISO work group responsible for all oil and gas heat transfer equipment, and chair of the BSI shadow committee responsible for EN/ISO piping, equipment, and related safety system standards.

The President, Chairman and committee look forward to welcoming you at the Prince Alfred.
