Back in 2016 the member companies of the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) signed up to JIP33, with support from the World Economic Forum Capital Project Complexity Initiative.
The aim of JIP33 is to simplify the process of purchasing equipment, by reducing the number of specifications suppliers have to deal with and focusing on a minimum set of requirements. This was in response to a number of major projects that overran on schedule and cost.
Tim will share his experiences on working with other operating companies developing specifications for Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers (S-614) and Air-Cooled Heat Exchangers (S-710), which were published in 2018 and 2020 respectively.
As with any standard/specification, being published is only the start of the journey, so Tim will discuss the challenges lying ahead for IOGP and the individuals that serve on the committees, as the market starts to use IOGP specifications when purchasing equipment.
Tim Griffin is a mechanical engineer, responsible for the design of heat exchangers, pressure vessels and storage tanks. He serves on a number of standards committees; API, BSI, CEN and in recent years IOGP.
