Peter Heggs, FREng, FIChemE, CEng, BSc, PhD (Leeds) is an Emeritus Professor of the University of Manchester, and currently, is a Visiting Research Professor in SCAPE at the University of Leeds.  He spent 4 years in the USA with Union Carbide Corporation and then became an academic at the Universities of Leeds, Bradford, UMIST and Manchester.  He is a member of the UK Heat Transfer Committee, the UK Heat Transfer Society (past President) and was the Chairman of the Heat Transfer Steering Panel of ESDU International.  He has supervised 67 PhD and more than 100 Master students, published over 350 research papers and has contributed to 34 books or parts of books. His research interests include heat, mass and momentum transfer in packed bed operations; heat and momentum effects in PHE’s, PFHE’s and CSTR’s; thermosyphon reboilers; operability and control of fouled heat exchangers;  extended surface heat exchangers; process integration and heat exchanger networks; mathematical modelling and computer software development for the design, control and operation of various unit operations in process engineering; pressure/temperature swing adsorption; boiling and condensation in evaporators in the nuclear industry.
